Jockey Wheel
Make sure you are choosing the right jockey wheel for your trailer with MCN trailers.
Jockey Wheel - Important considerations
Tube Diameter and compatibility
It is vital to get this measurement right. Make sure that you match your replacement jockey wheel with the existing clamp size. The most common sizes include 34mm, 42mm, 48mm and 60mm.
Static Load Capacity/Jockey wheel nose weight
This is the maximum weight your jockey wheel can support while it is stationary.
Jockey wheel shaft type
You have two options depending the type of trailer that you have:
1 - Smooth for light duty trailers
2 - Serrated/Ribbed for heavy duty trailers. The ribs lock in to minimise the risk of slipping under load.
Jockey wheel - material and terrain
Solid rubber or steel - provides longer lasting wear on concrete and other hard surfaces
Air filled/pneumatic - Provides shock aborption, making it ideal for uneven, soft or muddy ground. Please note it will require pressure check every so often.
How do I maintain my jockey wheel?
Tip No 1 - ALWAYS retract your jockey wheel and secure it before towing to prevent it from hitting the ground and causing damage.
Tip No 2 - Lubrication is essential to prevent your jockey wheel from seizing up.
Tip No 3 - Avoid storage loads. Do try and stick to hitching and unhitching. By putting your jockey wheel under strain of heavy loads for long periods of time, you are risking significant damage
Tip No 4 - Don't forget to maintain your jockey wheel to get the most wear out of it. Provide regular greasing to the spindle
